SUCCESS! Alyssa Valdez had for herself a great weekend in her so-called visit to the Philippines.
Alyssa Valdez was all smiles on Sunday at the San Juan Arena as Ateneo de Manila University pulled off a shocker in blanking erstwhile undefeated University of the Philippines.
And why wouldn’t she be as, in her first time watching and cheering for her alma mater this season, they scored a convincing victory.
All of that was a much welcome reward for Valdez a day after she tried out for the national team.
Asked how her trip to Davao went, the three-time UAAP MVP answered, “Well, I was just really glad na I had a quick visit here. The primary purpose of this visit naman is to go to Davao and try out for the national team.”
She then continued, “I accomplished that naman. Hopefully, babalik na maganda yung resulta nung tryout.”
Of course, Valdez didn’t mince any words in expressing how important wearing the flag is for her. “Oo naman, (malaking bagay ito sa akin). I think, every player naman would want to be a player for the national team,” she expressed.
Along than showing up for the national team, the 23-year-old had another experience to make her so-called visit to the Philippines worthwhile. “I really enjoyed being in Davao kasi may friends din ako dun. I’m really overwhelmed din sa support ng Davaoenos na nagpunta dun just to see the tryout,” she shared.
She then continued, “And of course, one very memorable na nangyari is nakita ko yung former coach ko, si coach Francis.”
Francis Vicente, the head coach of the national team, once mentored Valdez when she was still in high school.
