With ate Aly watching for first time, Ateneo scores big win
ALL FOR YOU. Ateneo did not let down their ate Alyssa, who was watching them for the first time.

Alyssa Valdez was back in UAAP Volleyball at the San Juan Arena on Sunday.

However, the three-time MVP was no longer suiting up for Ateneo de Manila University.

Missing the thrill of donning the blue and white, Valdez expressed to reporters, “Nakakaiyak, hindi na ako naglalaro.”

On a short break from her stint in Thailand, the former Queen Eagle made it a point to watch and cheer for her alma mater. “I just wanna watch the game of the girls,” she said, a day after trying out for the national team.

As it turns out, this was the first time Valdez saw Ateneo in its first season without her. “First time ko ‘tong manonood! In Thailand naman kasi, there’s no access sa livestream,” she said, while giving a playful glance to ABS-CBN Sports personnel in the press room.

Fortunately, the Lady Eagles did not let their ate Alyssa down as they pulled off a shocker in blanking erstwhile undefeated University of the Philippines.

Whatever the result, Valdez has been impressed with what the neighbors in Katipunan have shown in the season. As she put it, “These two teams, they’re showing hindi lang skills, hindi lang talent. Yung puso and pride nang pagdadala sa school, yun yung makikita mo sa mata ng girls ngayon.”

She then continued, “Para sa school talaga yung laro nila.”
