National University easily turned back University of Sto. Tomas, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19, Wednesday to keep a tight hold of the second spot in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Fauzi Ismail and Francis Saura scored 12 points each for the Bulldogs’ fourth win in a row for a 5-1 win-loss record behind league-leading undefeated defending champion Ateneo de Manila (6-0).
Bryan Bagunas got 10 markers while James Natividad and Kim Malabunga chipped in nine points each for NU, which will close the first round of eliminations against University of the Philippines.
“Sana magtuluy-tuloy ang performance ng team ko, mag-improve at ma-lessen ang mga unforced errors para pagdating sa second round mas kumipyansa kami,” said Bulldogs coach Dante Alinsunurin.
The Tigers dropped its third game in six outing to tie UP at fourth to fifth spots.
Only Jerico Jose finished in double figures for the Espana-based squad with 10 points while Manuel Medina got only five.
