National University tries to snap a two-game losing slide in showdown with University of Sto. Tomas.
From a promising start, National University is now in trouble of going further down south.
The Lady Bulldogs hope to halt a two-game slide Wednesday when they face the inconsistent University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on S+A Channel 23 and S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
After three straight victories to open the season, NU dropped two in a row to slide back to a tie at fourth to fifth with Far Eastern University.
The Lady Bulldogs bowed down to FEU 25-20, 25-13, 22-25, 25-20, last Saturday with only 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago reaching double digits with 20 points.
Head coach Roger Gorayeb wants his team to work together to achieve their goal and not rely too much on Santiago, who is averaging a tournament-high 19 points per game.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila, lahat naman kayo gustong manalo ang matindi kasi ‘yung iba gusto manalo pursigido. Pero ‘yung iba gusto manalo pero waiting lang sila (sa iba),” he said.
NU’s character will be tested against the Tigresses, who are on a hunt for their first back-to-back wins of the season.
The Espana-based squad is at sixth spot with a 2-3 slate and is coming off an emphatic 25-13, 25-12, 25-9 win over Adamson.
Top hitters Cherry Rondina, EJ Laure, Chloe Cortez and Ria Meneses are expected to bring their A-game to help UST spark a winning run.
