National University eyes its fourth straight win and keep a tight hold of the second spot.
National University tries to keep its hold of the second spot and extend its winning streak to four Wednesday when the Bulldogs collide with the University of Sto. Tomas Tigers in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Opening serve starts at 10:00 a.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN S+A and S+A HD and via livestream.
The Bulldogs are in a three-game winning streak, occupying the solo second spot with a 4-1 win-loss record behind the unbeaten back-to-back champions Ateneo de Manila.
But breathing down the Bulldogs' necks is UST.
The Tigers are in a three-way logjam at third to fifth spot with Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines with identical 3-2 slates.
The Bulldogs hope to carry the momentum of their 25-20, 25-22, 25-23, win over FEU last Saturday to keep its winning run going with just three more playdates before the elims first round comes to a close.
Even with a powerhouse team composed of veteran hitters Bryan Bagunas, Fauzi Ismail and Season 78 Rookie of the Year James Natividad, NU head coach Dante Alinsunurin is not taking UST lightly.
“Ngayon hindi ka naman na kasi nakakasigurado eh,” he said. “Lahat ng teams may pakakataon manalo.”
UST barely escaped a thrilling match against Adamson, 30-28, 23-25, 25-23, 10-25, 15-12, last Saturday.
Meanwhile, FEU and UP clash at 8:00 a.m.
