Tams claim solo third, sweep Maroons

Far Eastern University pounded University of the Philippines to submission to take the solo third spot.
Far Eastern University barged back in the win column to claim solo third spot Wednesday with a 27-25, 25-17, 25-20, demolition of University of the Philippines in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Jude Garcia and Peter Quiel powered the Tamaraws to their fourth win in six games with just one more assignment to go to close the first round of eliminations.
With Greg Dolor taking the backseat with only seven points, Garcia showcased an all-around performance taking the scoring responsibility with 12 points coming from seven attacks, three kill blocks and a pair of aces spiced by a defensive effort that saw him get seven digs for FEU.
Quiel chipped in 10 markers, all from kills, while Richard Solis and JP Bugaoan combined for 14 points for the Morayta-based squad in a bounce back win after FEU dropped a straight sets match over NU last Saturday.
The Tams face University of Sto. Tomas on Saturday at the end of the first round.
UP dropped its second straight match to slide back at 3-3 slate tied with UST at fourth to fifth spots.
John Millete scored 16 points while Wendel Miguel had 11 markers for the Maroons, who will face second-running National University on Sunday.
