University of Sto. Tomas scored its first back-to-back wins of the season.
University of Sto. Tomas scored its first back-to-back wins of the season with an emphatic crushing of the freefalling National University, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-12, Wednesday in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses shrugged off a rusty start to destroy the shocked Lady Bulldogs, whom they tied at 3-3 win-loss record at fifth to sixth spot.
Skipper Cherry Rondina scored all but one of her 15 points from kills while adding 16 digs and 10 excellent receptions for the Espana-based squad. EJ Laure had 11 points while Mary Dominique Pacres also added 11 markers including the match-sealing ace for the Tigresses.
UST regrouped just in time to frustrate NU and in the process build the much-needed momentum heading into its last match in the first round of eliminations on Saturday against Far Eastern University.
After three straight wins, the Lady Bulldogs saw themselves skidding three games in a row.
Six-foot-5 Jaja Santiago was the lone bright spot for NU with 15 points while Jorelle Singh and Audrey Paran combined for only 13 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who gave away 32 points off their errors and 12 markers on UST's aces.
