Far Eastern University shoots for its fourth straight win to end the first round of eliminations.
Far Eastern University hopes to continue its winning ways when the Lady Tamaraws face off with a rejuvenated University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena Saturday.
After a shaky start, the Lady Tams are on a three-game winning roll and are on a lookout to close the first round of eliminations on a high note.
Game time is at 2:00 p.m. and will air live over S+A Channel 23, S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
All eyes are on the matchup between FEU’s Bernadeth Pons, who in the Lady Tams’ three-game romp was a triple-double monster, and UST skipper Cherry Rondina.
The fourth year Pons averaged 19.6 points, 20.3 digs and 12.6 excellent receptions in their previous three games to help the Morayta-based squad climb to a tie with University of the Philippines at third to fourth spots with 4-2 win-loss records.
The 20-year-old hitter exploded for 24 points coming off 22 spikes and a pair of kill blocks and added 23 digs and 14 excellent receptions in FEU’s 25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, victory over the Lady Maroons Wednesday.
Rondina, meanwhile, had 15 points, 18 digs and 10 excellent receptions to lead UST past the freefalling National University, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-12, four days ago.
The Tigresses hold a 3-3 slate tied with NU and are on the hunt for a third straight victory.
Backing Pons up are Toni Basas, Remy Palma and Jerrili Malabanan while Rondina will have the support of Season 77 rookie of the year EJ Laure, Ria Meneses and Chloe Cortez.
