Alam ko na gusto niya lang akong lumakas and umalis sa comfort zone ko na kaya ko pang lumakas o higitan kung ano ang Shaya Adorador ngayon -- Shaya Adorador
University of the East fourth year hitter Shaya Adorador received a little bit of tongue-lashing from head coach Francis Vicente to wake up from a scoring stupor and deliver her career-best performance that snapped the Lady Warriors’ six-game skid.
“May tampuhan kami ni coach Francis na nangyari pero ‘yun ang ginawa kong inspiration,” said the opposite hitter, who answered the challenge of Vicente with 23 big points in UE’s 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, drubbing of Adamson University in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at the MOA Arena.
Adorador smashed 20 attacks with a pair of kill blocks and a service ace to put the Lady Warriors in the win column after seven tries to end the first round of eliminations.
Vicente admitted during the post-match interview that he gave Adorador some dressing-down during the team’s slump.
Adorador started the season with 21 points in a four-set loss at the hands of National University but the team captain dipped in performance in their next five games averaging only 7.2 points.
“To be honest nasermonan si Shaya sa previous games niya kaya pumatak ang luha sa kanyang mga mata,” said Vicente. “So I hope she learns a lot as a leader.”
Vicente this time praised Adorador, who added 21 digs in the win, for responding.
“Alam ko si Shaya ang nagdala (ng panalo) tapos sinamahan nina (Angelica) Dacaymat at (Jasmine) Alcayde sa lahat ng departamento,” he said.
Adorador for her part understood what her mentor wanted to impart.
“Alam ko na gusto niya lang akong lumakas and umalis sa comfort zone ko na kaya ko pang lumakas o higitan kung ano ang Shaya Adorador ngayon,” she said.
