COMPETITIVE. Kat Tolentino said the big stage and the bright lights of the rivalry game made her want nothing more than to rise to the occasion.
Ateneo de Manila University’s first-year player Kat Tolentino played in her first rivalry game last Saturday.
Like many before her, the Filipino-Canadian was overwhelmed by how big Ateneo-La Salle is. As she put it, “It was a crazy experience. I’m speechless.”
She then continued, “I expected it to be a tough game. It was a really good game.”
Once the serve was in and the ball was live, however, Tolentino looked like she belonged. In fact, she turned in her best game of the season with 18 points – 16 from spikes and two from blocks.
Staying modest, the 22-year-old said of her performance, “I just wanted to help the team in any way I could.”
Still, Tolentino also acknowledged that the big stage and the bright lights of the rivalry game made her want nothing more than to rise to the occasion. “I think these types of games bring out the best in any player. I’m just happy to have experienced it and to have been able to play in this game,” she said.
She then continued, offering compliments to their fellow contender Lady Spikers, “I really do think that good competitors bring out your best game so that’s probably why this is one of my strongest games.”
