De La Salle University definitely learned a valuable lesson in its loss to Ateneo de Manila University last Saturday at the end of the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament elimination first round.
The Lady Spikers this time made sure to close each set and fight off their opponent’s comeback attempts.
Head coach Ramil de Jesus commended his wards after showing composure in the second and third set to stave off the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws’ rally in DLSU’s 25-5, 25-23, 25-23, victory Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
After an emphatic win in the first frame, the Lady Spikers faced a tough challenge in the next two sets but found a way to hold off the Lady Tams – the thing missing in DLSU’s four-set loss to the Lady Eagles in a rematch of last year’s finals.
Against Ateneo, the Lady Spikers squandered set point advantages in the first and second sets. DLSU actually went ahead, 23-18, in both frames.
So akala ko nga mauulit this game,” said a relieved De Jesus, whose squad improved to 6-2 win-loss record.
Akala siguro nila natatapos sa 23 or 24 ang game so sana mag-mature pa,” he added.
The mentor was happy to see that his team were able to respond to the challenge of bouncing back after a big loss.
Makikita mo kung may bounce back or wala,” he said.
Kung aayaw ba or gagalaw ba?”
The Lady Spikers face National University next.
