Maroons end skid, hand Green Spikers second straight loss

University of the Philippines sweeps De La Salle University to halt a three-game skid.
John Millete and Alfred Valbuena led University of the Philippines in arresting a three-game skid with a quick work of De La Salle University, 25-21, 25-23, 25-17, Wednesday to open the second round of eliminations in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Graduating player Valbuena and Millete hammered 14 kills each in the Diliman-based squad’s 45 total attack points. The Fighting Maroons evened its record to 4-4.
Millete finished with 18 points with four coming off kill blocks while Valbuena scored 16.
In his return to action after sitting out in their loss to National University last Sunday because of a shoulder injury, skipper Wendel Miguel had eight points in two sets while Jerry San Pedro registered eight for UP, which avenged its 23-25, 19-25, 21-25, loss to DLSU in the opening round.
The Green Spikers dropped to its second straight defeat for a 2-4 slate and played its third game without injured ace hitter Raymark Woo (knee).
Arjay Onia had 14 points while Geraint Bacon and Levin Dimauga finished with 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for the Taft-based squad.
