University of Sto. Tomas guns for its fourth win in a row against a University of the East side in search of back-to-back victories.
After an early struggle with their campaign in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament, the University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses are now on a roll.
The Espana-based squad guns for its fourth straight win Saturday when the Tigresses meet the inspired University of the East Lady Warriors in their scheduled 2:00 p.m. duel at the Araneta Coliesum.
The game will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
With EJ Laure, Cherry Rondina, Chloe Cortez, Ria Meneses and Dimdim Pacres stepping up in their winning run, UST is now looking like a Final Four contender after a 1-3 start.
The Tigresses closed the first round of eliminations Sunday with a huge win against rival Far Eastern University, 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, to improve its record to 4-3 tied with University of the Philippines.
UST dominated UE, 25-9, 25-22, 25-23, in their first meeting last February 15.
But the Tigresses will surely face a tough challenge this time.
The Red Warriors arrested a 6-game losing slump last Sunday with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, thumping of the listless Adamson Lady Falcons.
UE, which gave teams fits in the opening round, is on a missing to score its first back-to-back wins in years.
Skipper Shaya Adorador registered a career-high 23 points in UE last outing. Adorador hopes that their win could be a start of something big for the squad.
“Siyempre ‘yung panalo, gusto nang mangyari na sa team namin. Kasi sobrang tagal pinapangarap namin na magkaroon ng panalo. Hindi lang isa, hindi lang dalawa, kundi para lang umabot sa goal namin,” said Adorador.
UE during the offseason set a modest goal of finishing above the bottom two.
