UST snags solo second after defeating Ateneo, 3-2 to end the first round
Charisa Lemoran had herself a game, scoring a hat trick to help University of Santo Tomas stun Ateneo de Manila, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium to claim solo second place at the end of the first round of the UAAP Season 79 women's football tournament.
Lemoran struck early, putting the Lady Tigresses ahead in just the second minute of action.
Ateneo's Tessa Bernardo would answer back midway through the first frame however, finding the equalizer in the 26th minute.
With ten minutes to go in the half, Lemoran found the back of the net once more to put the Golden Tigresses back up before halftime.
The lady of the hour would hit once more to kick off the second half, putting adding cushion to the UST lead by scoring in the 55th minute, completing her first hat trick of the season.
With 69 minutes left to play, Ateneo skipper Cam Rodriguez made things pretty interestign by sending in a free kick following a handball call to UST.
Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, that would be the final goal of the match for both sides, as UST held on to a 3-2 win.
With the win, UST claims solo second place with three wins and one loss for nine points, just behind league-leading De La Salle with four wins and 12 points.
Ateneo on the other hand drops to two wins and two losses for six points, while former champions FEU and University of the Philippines round out the standings, both with a one draw and three loss record for a point each.
