Ateneo de Manila University is out to claim the first Final Four seat.
Unbeaten defending champion Ateneo de Manila University sets its eyes on clinching a Final Four berth Sunday in a showdown with University of the Philippines in their 79th UAAP men’s volleyball elimination round rematch at the Big Dome.
The ‘Battle of Katipunan’ rematch is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. and will be shown live on S+A HD channel 166 and via livestream.
With three-time Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo leading the charge, the Blue Eagles stormed its way to eight straight wins for the solo lead and at least a semifinals spot playoff.
Ateneo defeated Far Eastern University, 25-16, 25-9, 25-18, last Wednesday. The Blue Eagles are looking to make a repeat of their 25-18, 26-24, 25-16, win over the Maroons last February 26.
A win by Ateneo will give them a spot in the next round and will push them closer to a sweep of the elims that will propel them outright in the best-of-three finals.
The Maroons snapped a three-game skid with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 victory over De La Salle University last Wednesday for a 4-4 slate.
Meanwhile, FEU and DLSU clash at 8:00 a.m. with both teams trying to get back in the win column.
The Tams are at third spot with 5-3 card while the Green Spikers are tied with the Adamson Falcons with 2-6 marks.
FEU is favored to duplicate its 25-16, 25-19, 26-24, win over DLSU in their season opener last February five with the Green Spikers still missing the services of injured Raymark Woo (knee injury).
