Lady Tams drub Lady Falcons to get back in win column
Far Eastern University bounced back from a loss with a straight sets win over Adamson.
Far Eastern University put the Adamson Lady Falcons to shame in a swift 25-9, 25-20, 25-11, win Sunday to get back on the winning track in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.
The Lady Tamaraws schooled the listless Lady Falcons to erase the embarrassment FEU received in its loss to the defending champion De La Salle University the last time out.
With Remy Palma, Bernadeth Pons and Toni Basas teaming up to rain down attacks on Adamson, FEU improved its record to 5-4 and snapped a two-game losing skid including a 5-25, 23-25, 23-25, defeat against the Lady Spikers Wednesday.
Basas unleashed 13 kills in her total of 16 points while Pons and Palma had 10 markers each for the Morayta-based squad.
The Lady Falcons remained winless in nine games and dropped their 16th straight match overall since the start of the second round of Season 78.
Adamson’s losing skid was so frustrating that even American coach Air Padda couldn’t help but drop an expletive in the Lady Falcons’ huddle in the second set when her wards squandered a 9-5 lead.
Up four points, the Lady Falcons watched their advantage evaporate after the Lady Tams blasted eight straight points to take a 13-9 lead.
Padda called time when FEU went ahead 11-9 and in the heat of the moment gave middle Joy Dacoron a tongue-lashing highlighted by a shocking expletive on live TV.
The mentor apologized after realizing her mistake.
Adamson only had four players logging in points with Jema Galanza nailing seven. Bernadette Flora, Zonxi Dahab and Dacoron combined for 11 markers for the Lady Falcons, who received mor points from FEU's error with 22 compared to the production they made.
