Lady Maroons halt four-game slide

University of the Philippines ended a four-game losing slide at the expense of University of the East.
Finally, a win.
University of the Philippines stopped a four-game bleeding Wednesday when the Lady Maroons downed University of the East, 25-14, 18-25, 25-15, 25-10, in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Diliman-based squad barged back in the win column to end a dry spell that started at the middle of the first round. UP improved to 5-4 win-loss record tied with National University and Far Eastern University.
After yielding the second set, Diana Carlos, Kathy Bersola and Isa Molde spearheaded the counteroffensive of the Lady Maroons to turn back the Lady Warriors.
Carlos pounded 15 kills, had four aces and a pair of kill blocks in her 21-point explosion while Bersola broke out of her scoring slump with 18 points anchored on 15 spikes for UP. Molde finished with 16.
Arielle Estranero dished out 42 excellent sets to help the Lady Maroons hammer 49 attack points.
UE absorbed its second straight loss for a 1-8 mark.
Shaya Adorador finished with 12 points while national team pool member Roselle Baliton had 25 excellent sets and eight points for the Lady Warriors.
