It depends (kung sasali sa national pool). Depende sa priorities kasi may classes din kami, I mean may intercession --- Maddie Madayag
Even with her ‘surprise’ inclusion to the national women’s volleyball team pool, Ateneo de Manila’s Maddie Madayag is undecided if she’ll suit up for the tri-colors.
Madayag and teammate Kat Tolentino were named to the 25-man pool announced Tuesday by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc.
But with the Lady Eagles in a good position to reclaim the crown, Madayag wanted to focus first on their campaign in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
“UAAP pa so I'm not really sure,” said Madayag after the Ateneo’s 25-10, 26-24, 28-26, drubbing of University of Sto. Tomas that kept the Lady Eagles perch on top of the standings with 8-1 record Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
“I'm thinking about it but then we want to finish this season first before thinking about the next,” she added.
Madayag said that she’s also unsure if she’ll have a time to join the buildup of the national team pool for the Asian U-23, Asian Senior Women’s and 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 19 to 31.
“It depends (kung sasali sa national pool). Depende sa priorities kasi may classes din kami, I mean may intercession,” said the 19-year-old hitter.
Madayag and Tolentino were handpicked by national team coach Francis Vicente as well as Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili of De La Salle University to the pool.
But their inclusion came as a surprise as they both didn’t receive an invitation from LVPI to join the March 12 special tryouts for NCAA and UAAP players contrary to the claim of the national sports association that they handed out invites.
Dy and Macandili, however, informed Vicente of their intent to join the pool.
