Ateneo de Manila and University of Sto. Tomas stake their winning streaks in elims round rematch.
League-leading Ateneo de Manila battle another streaking team University of Sto. Tomas Wednesday in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Both teams aim to preserve their winning run in their 4:00 p.m. match that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
Carrying a 7-1 record anchored on a six-game romp, the Lady Eagles hope to inch closer to a Final Four spot.
"Team effort ang nangyayari. Mataas ang confidence ngayon ng mga bata. Kapag naglalaro, parang walang standing ang iniisip ng mga bata,” said Ateneo assistant coach Sherwin Meneses.
With consistent numbers coming from Jho Maraguinot, Michelle Morente, Bea De Leon and Kat Tolentino and with veteran setter Jia Morado doing a great job orchestrating offense, the Lady Eagles easily disposed the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 25-15, 25-14, 25-15, last Saturday.
On the other hand, the Tigresses are also making strides in their campaign to snatch a slot in the next round.
After a shaky start, UST strung four straight victories, including a 25-21, 25-15, 25-23, win over University of the East last Saturday for 5-3 slate.
“Nagbubunga na yung pinaghihirapan namin,” said Tigresses mentor Kungfu Reyes.
EJ Laure, Cherry Rondina, Ria Meneses, Chloe Cortez, Dimdim Pacres and Pam Lastimosa are all looking to work doubly harder to help the Espana-based squad continue it successful run and avenge its straight sets season-opening loss to Ateneo.
