DLSU exacts revenge on Adamson, gets back in win column
De La Salle gains a measure of revenge over Adamson, beating the Falcons, 2-0 in the second round behind goals from Nicko Villacin and Jed Diamante (15)

The De La Salle Green Archers finally find their way back to the win column in UAAP Season 79 men's football, gaining a measure of revenge with a 1-0 win over Adamson University, Thursday afternoon at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field in Ateneo de Manila.

Much like their first round meeting, things were pretty tight in the early moments of the match, with both teams getting chances on goal.

After a scoreless first half however, DLSU, looking to avoid another unfavorable result against Adamson, pushed the action, and it paid off with Nicko Villacin getting a header go in from a corner in the 67th minute.

Adamson's hero from the last meeting, Ejike Ugwoke, had a clean attempt late in the second half, but fortunately for the Green Archers, keeper Kerby Almonte was there to preserve the DLSU lead.

Four minutes into injury time, DLSU sophomore Jed Diamante put the game on ice, sending the ball into the back of the net from way outside for the 2-0 final tally.

"Well you can see, the intensity was there, but we still lack finishing," DLSU head coach Hans Smit said post match. "It's a good start to the second round, all they need to do is just focus on their finishing now. The defense is holding up, the midfield is holding up."

"I credit this game to my coaches. I just told them na just remember what happened in the first round, we can't have a repeat of the same. Attitudes need to be changed, and they showed it until the end," Smit added.

With the win, De La Salle moves to two wins, two draws, and four losses for eight points, while Adamson remains at the bottom with one win and seven losses for three points.
