Jose Montelibano (14) scored in the second half to help power De La Salle past UE in UAAP men's football action
Rookie Marcus Garcia scored in the first half, while Jose Montelibano added another goal in the second half to power De La Salle past University of the East, 2-0, in UAAP Season 79 men's football action, Sunday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The Green Archers seized control of the lead midway through half number one, with Garcia hitting his mark just 26 minutes into the match.
In the second half, Garcia played a major key in the attack, this time playing facilitator as he found Montelibano who sent the ball home with a bicycle kick for the two-goal advantage at the 53-minute mark of the match.
The score would stand until the end of regulation, and the Green Archers hang on for their second win in a row.
"The intensity was there, but there's still some misjudgement in decision making," said DLSU head coach Hans Peter Smit. "The main thing here, the most important thing here is that they're getting back into the win, they're getting their Ws, that's the most important thing for me, to get their confidence back, to be able to play, and to be able to score."
"The target is to get to the top four." Smit added.
With the win, DLSU improves to three wins, two draws, and four losses, good for eleven points.
They position themselves right with University of Santo Tomas and National University, who are also gunning for a spot in the final four.
