Ateneo de Manila collects its 11th straight win and is now three wins away from an outright Finals seat.
Three more to go.
Unbeaten three-peat seeking Ateneo de Manila stretched its winning run to 11 to inch closer to an outright Finals berth after a quick work of Adamson University, 25-18, 25-20, 25-14, Wednesday in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Head coach Oliver Almadro had the liberty to experiment with his rotation and his boys delivered for the Katipunan-based squad, which strung 25 straight victories since last season.
"As usual, I sacrificed some rotations. It was a good thing na my players did well. I guess, they're ready kasi, for the past few games, we've been trying different things so I'm sure we'll get better," said a satisfied Almadro.
Three-time Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo scored 13 points anchored on 11 attacks while Rex Intal and sophomore Ron Medalla finished with 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Blue Eagles.
Already assured of a spot in the Final Four and a semis twice-to-beat advantage, Ateneo is now three match wins away from clinching an automatic seat in the best-of-three championship series.
The Blue Eagles battered the also-ran Falcons with 49 attacks and had seven kill blocks in a repeat win.
Adamson dropped its fourth straight match for a 2-9 slate.
John Philip Yude got 14 points while Jerome Sarmiento and skipper Michael Sudaria combined for 16 markers for the Falcons.
