Molde, Lady Maroons not worrying about Final Four just yet

ONE GAME AT A TIME. Isa Molde and UP know they have a long ways to go before reaching their goal of the Final Four.
Isa Molde served up six aces as the University of the Philippines scored a much-needed win to boost their bid for the Final Four in the UAAP 79 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
The Season 78 Rookie of the Year had more aces than all of Adamson University. Even more, four of those came in a red-hot row in the middle of the second set.
Asked about her strong service game to add to her total of 15 points, Molde answered through chuckles, “Wala naman. Laro lang.”
Whatever it was, the 17-year-old’s stellar outing – together with Kathy Bersola’s 12 points and Tots Carlos’ 11 points – was a much welcome development for the Lady Maroons who have only won twice in the last seven.
That sort of struggle, coming after a 4-0 start to the season.
While they are yet to come close to those heights, Molde re-assured the Diliman community that they are doing all in their power to recapture that magic. “We need to move forward. Kailangan na talaga kasi hindi naman pwedeng ma-stuck lang kami sa ganun palagi,” she said.
She also added, for emphasis, “Kailangan na talaga naming mag-move on.”
Still, UP isn’t guaranteeing for itself a spot in the playoffs just yet. As assistant coach Rald Ricafort put it, “May mindset na kami na hindi na mina-mind yung ibang pwedeng mangyari maliban sa mga game na ilalaro namin. So one game at a time muna talaga.”
Molde could only agree, as the Lady Maroons find themselves grouped with Far Eastern University, National University, and University of Sto. Tomas for the last two playoff spots. “Ang mindset namin is maglaro lang and wag na lang muna isipin yung Final Four. Basta makalaro lang kami,” she said.
She then continued, “Kung manalo, edi manalo. Kung wala, edi training ulit.”
