Far Eastern University arrested a three-game skid with a straight sets victory over University of the East.
John Paul Bugaoan and Raymond Bautista made their presence felt in front of the net to lead Far Eastern University’s block party in its straight sets, 25-19, 25-22, 25-13, submission of the also-ran University of the East in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Tamaraws snapped a three-game losing skid and won its first in the second round to improve to 6-5 win-loss record. The victory solidified the Morayta-based squad’s bid to capture one of the last two Final Four slots remaining after unbeaten Ateneo de Manila (10-0) and National University (9-1) occupied the first two berths.
The duo of Bugaoan and Bautista combined for eight kill blocks in the Tams’ total of 12 that effectively shutdown the attackers of the Red Warriors.
Bugaon scored 14 points to lead FEU while Greg Dolor hammered 10 kills in his 12-point outing. Bautista registered half of his eight points off kill blocks.
Ronchette Villegas tallied 25 excellent sets while chipping in five points in the Tams’ quick 71-minute repeat victory over UE.
The Red Warriors dropped its 10th match in 11 outings and third straight.
With FEU’s solid blocking, no player on the Red Warriors side scored in double figures. Edward Camposano was silenced to nine points while Clifford Inoferio and Geric Ortega combined for 13 markers.
