NU, UE looking to stay in final four race in men's football
The NU Bulldogs try to stay in the hunt for their first ever post-season berth

MATCHES on THURSDAY, MARCH 23 (Moro Lorenzo Football Field)

2:00 PM - NU vs. Adamson (Men's)

4:00 PM - UP vs. UE (Men's)

With the second round of the UAAP Season 79 men's football tournament in full swing, the race towards the final four is heating up, as two teams in National University and University of the East try to stay in the race for a spot in the post season.

After a big three-game winning run in the end of the first round, the NU Bulldogs have since dropped their first two matches, falling to sixth place in the standings. The season isn't over yet however, and another big run could do wonders for NU's standing, and it could all start with a win against Adamson.

After their stunning upset over De La Salle in the first round, the Adamson Falcons appeared to be on their way to improving from their previous UAAP campaigns. Unfortunately, the Falcons haven't been able to follow up on that big win as they've lost six more times since. They try to build a bit of momentum as they take on the struggling NU Bulldogs.

NU and Adamson clash at 2:00 PM.

In the later match of the afternoon, defending champions University of the Philippines meet UE.

Continuously showing just why they're the defending kings of UAAP football. They kicked off the second round by holding the league-leading Ateneo Blue Eagles to a draw, and then in their last outing, they handed FEU their first loss of the season to grab share of second place in the standings. They'll be shorthanded in their next few outings however, as skipper Daniel Gadia, defender Ian Clarino, and keeper Ace Villanueva will be on international duty for the U23 Azkals.

While the Red Warriors haven't won a game since beating Adamson in the first round, all isn't lost for the Arboleda-led squad. With their confidence at a high, a string of wins could finally get UE back into the post season for the first time since UAAP Season 73.

UP and UE meet at 4:00 PM.
