Lady Spikers book ninth straight Final Four stint

De La Salle formalized its entry to its ninth straight Final Four appearance.
Repeat-seeking De La Salle University dominated University of the East, 25-16, 25-15, 25-9, Saturday and claimed a seat in the Final Four of the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Spikers stormed to their fourth straight victory and improved their win-loss record to 9-2 tied with archrival Ateneo de Manila for a share of the lead. The Taft-based squad formalized its entry to its ninth straight Final Four appearance.
Head coach Ramil De Jesus had the liberty to tweak with his rotation as the Lady Spikers pulled away early in each of the sets to dictate the match.
"Maganda ang ganitong game para sa amin kasi nakikita mo kung sino ang pwedeng magamit," said De Jesus.
Desiree Cheng led the Lady Spikers with 10 points coming off nine attacks and a service ace. Majoy Baron and Kim Fajardo scored nine markers each while Kim Dy had eight. Fajardo tallied 31 excellent sets.
Ernestine Tiamzon finished with seven while seldom-used Arriane Layug, Norielle Ipac and Gyra Barroga combined for six points for the Taft-based squad.
UE had no answer to DLSU's relentless attacks as the Lady Warriors dropped their 10th match in 11 games.
Shaya Adrorador came off the bench and finished with six while Mary Anne Mendrez and Roselle Baliton got five and four points, respectively, for the Lady Warriors.
