Ateneo and UST battled to a 2-2 draw at the FEU Diliman Football Field.
University of Santo Tomas found themselves down twice, and managed to pull even twice as they held Ateneo de Manila to a 2-2 draw in UAAP Season 79 women's football action, Sunday afternoon at the FEU Diliman Football Field.
After dropping three consecutive matches, the Lady Eagles were hungry to get back in to the win column, and early on, it looked as though they were on track to getting the maximum points as skipper Camille Rodriguez was the first to score, hitting in the 21st minute.
Just before halftime though, the Golden Tigresses found an equalizer courtesy of Christelle Cleofe, who put UST on the board three minutes into extra time in the first half.
The Lady Eagles took control of the match once again after Rodriguez found her mark in the 58th minute to put Ateneo ahead 2-1.
Just when it looked like the Katipunan side had the match in the bag, UST's late-match aggressiveness paid off, as the tournament's leading scorer Charisa Lemon put the ball through the back of the net once again to pull UST at level in the 82nd minute.
Neither team could find a tiebreaking conversion, and the score stood at 2-2.
"Alam name sang na may sayang gawin yung team, medyo nag-pabaya lang, kaya kami yung laging naunahan," UST head coach Prescila Rubio said, post-match. "But of course, Ateneo, paangat din sila, maganda din yung performance nila, kaya lesson learned sa amin, kailangan talaga naming hindi mag-relax, kasi pwede namang hindi umabot sa point na kami yung maghabol, pwede naman sana kami yung mag-lead."
Ateneo head coach JP Merida on the other hand, wasn't too happy with the outcome, having had the lead twice, only to lose it both times.
"Sobrang disappointed ako sa team. Dalawang beses kaming binigyan ng UST, first half and second half, wala namang instruction na pag-maglead kami, go for defending na. Nakaka-disappoint kasi andun na eh, binibigyan kami ng chance. Ang hirap tanggapin." Merida said post match.
UST moves to three wins, one draw, and two losses for nine points and second place in the standings, while Ateneo moves to two wins, one draw, and three losses for five points, good for third place in the standings.
