National University hopes to continue its hot streak to 10.
National University stakes its nine-game winning streak Wednesday when the Bulldogs face University of the Philippines in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Already assured of a semis seat and a twice-to-beat advantage, NU is looking to continue its momentum as it builds up for its marquee match against the unbeaten defending champions Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles at the end of the elimination round.
After their battle against the Fighting Maroons, the Bulldogs will take on University of the East before meeting archrival Ateneo on April 8.
But NU must first take on the challenge of UP, which is on the hunt for one of the last two remaining semis berths, in the scheduled 8:00 a.m. joust.
Facing off in the 10:00 match that will air live over ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream are De La Salle University and University of Sto. Tomas.
The Bulldogs are on a nine-win roll for a 10-1 win-loss record behind the Blue Eagles (12-0).
NU escaped a thriller against the Green Spikers, 25-23, 19-25, 25-15, 20-25, 16-14, last Saturday.
The Maroons and Tigers are tied with 5-6 records and both squad need to sweep all of their remaining games for a chance to advance in the Final Four.
UP is coming off a 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 11-15, defeat against UST last Saturday. The Maroons suffered a four-set setback at the hands of the Bulldogs to close the first round.
A win by the Maroons or Tigers will boot out Adamson (3-9) from semis contention and will narrow down the race for the semis ticket between four teams.
DLSU (4-7) is in dire need to win all of its remaining games and hope for a tie at 7-7 slate to force a playoff for a semis spot.
