Ateneo de Manila hunts for its 13th straight win in a rematch against De La Salle University.
Title-holder Ateneo de Manila University tries to move closer to clinching an outright Finals berth Saturday in a rematch against De La Salle University in the 79th UAAP men's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
With a 12-0 win-loss record, the Blue Eagles are just two wins away from punching a ticket straight to the best-of-three championship series.
But Ateneo must first hurdle the Green Spikers in their 10:00 a.m. clash that will air live over ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
The Katipunan-based squad defeated University of the East, 27-25, 25-19, 25-16, last Sunday for its 12th win in a row and 26th straight since last season.
Ateneo, which will end its elims campaign in a marquee rematch against National University on April 8, shoots for a repeat of its 25-21, 25-21, 25-18, domination of the Taft-based squad in the first round and formally extinguish the Green Spikers’ hopes of making it to the next round.
DLSU holds a 4-8 slate at sixth spot but has its back up against the wall, needing to win all of its remaining matches to force a playoff for a semis slot.
The Green Spikers’ last match is against the Red Warriors on April 5.
DLSU is coming off a two-game losing slump against NU and University of Sto. Tomas.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University aims for at least a semis berth playoff in the 8:00 a.m. duel against University of the Philippines.
The Tamaraws and UST Tigers are tied at 6-6 slates at third and fourth spots while the Fighting Maroons fashion a 5-7 mark.
