Far Eastern University hopes to breathe life to its flickering semifinals bid.
Far Eastern University fights for dear life Saturday when the Lady Tamaraws square off with another Final Four contender National University in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Holding a 6-6 win-loss slate at sixth spot, the Lady Tams’ chance of advancing in the next round is slowly slipping away and are now on a must-win situation in their last couple of games in the elims.
The Morayta-based squad face a tall task of keeping their semis hopes alive in the 4:00 p.m. match that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
“Challenge talaga ‘yung mangyayari para sa amin,” said FEU caoc Shaq Delos Santos. “Normal naman ‘yung pressure, kahit anong game na lalaruin mo. Maganda yung possible pang mangyayari sa amin kung maipapanalo namin.”
The Lady Tams arrested a two-game slide with a 25-14, 25-18, 27-25, win over University of the East last Wednesday where Jeanette Villareal and Bernadeth Pons combined for 22 points.
But it will take a lot more for FEU to make a repeat over their first round victims.
If they beat the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Tams still need to get past the University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses on April 8 for a possible playoff for the No. 4 slot. A loss will send them packing for an early vacation.
The Lady Bulldogs will have coach Roger Gorayeb back after a one-game absence and are looking to bounce back from a 14-25, 27-25, 21-25, 12-25, loss to University of the Philippines last Sunday.
NU is in a three-way tie with UP and UST from third to fifth places at 7-5.
