Far Eastern University swept University of the Philippines to claim the third semis berth.
Far Eastern University occupied the third Final Four seat after pushing University of the Philippines on the brink of elimination with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-16, victory Saturday in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Tamaraws joined early semifinalists three-peat seeking undefeated Ateneo de Manila and National University after claiming their seventh win in 13 matches for solo third spot.
Jude Garcia smashed 12 attacks to finish with 13 points while skipper Richard Solis scored all but one of his 10 markers from spikes to help FEU complete an elims head-to-head sweep against the same squad that pulled them out of the semifinals race last season.
Greg Dolor and John Paul Bugaoan combined for 18 points for the Morayta-based squad, which received 22 free points from the Maroons’ errors.
FEU will close the elims on April 8 against University of Sto. Tomas.
UP dropped to 5-8 slate and is in danger of missing the semis cut if UST wins against also-ran Adamson on Sunday.
Alfred Valbuena and John Mark Millete finished with 13 points apiece for the Diliman-based squad.
The Maroons’ last assignment is against Adamson on Wednesday.
