Adamson University delayed University of Sto. Tomas' march into the semifinals.
Adamson University denied University of Sto. Tomas’ formal entry to the semifinals Sunday with a shocking 25-23, 25-19, 25-17, win in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Already out of the race for the last semis spot, the Falcons continued playing the spoilers’ role with their second straight win – all against Final Four contenders. Adamson tied idle De La Salle University at 4-9 win-loss record at sixth to seventh spots.
The Falcons’ win not only delayed the Tigers’ march for the last semis berth but also gave hope to University of the Philippines’ (5-8) Final Four bid.
John Philip Yude and Dave Pletado scored nine points each for Adamson, which had an easy time exacting revenge on its first round tormentor with UST giving away 35 points off errors.
The Tigers slid to 6-7 card and pushed to a must-win situation against semis-bound Far Eastern University to advance outright to the Final Four. Another loss coupled with a win by the Fighting Maroons against Adamson on Wednesday will force a playoff between UP and UST for the last semis slot.
Skipper Arnold Bautista scored seven points while Tyrone Carodan and Jerico Jose had six markers each for the Tigers, who saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
