UST scored late to come away with an important win against NU.
A go-ahead goal from AJ Pasion late in the second half spelled all the difference as University of Santo Tomas slipped past National University, 2-1, in UAAP Season 79 men's football action, Sunday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Growling Tigers needed maximum points to keep themselves in the hunt for the fourth seed, and struck early, with Darwin Busmion scoring in the 17th minute from a Darryl Regala free kick attempt.
Looking to avoid back-to-back losses, the Bulldogs got back in the match in the 75th minute courtesy of an equalizer from Mike Arbela.
UST would get the last laugh however, as Pasion capitalized on a keeper error, tipping the ball in as NU keeper Chris Perocho found himself out of place unable to stop the Tigers from scoring.
A second equalizer from NU wouldn't materialize, and UST held on to the 2-1 victory.
"This game is very important for UST, now we're back to number four," said UST head coach Marjo Allado after the match. "Yung pinaka-maganda na nagyari dito is yung three points."
With the win, UST moves into fourth seed with five wins, two draws, and five losses for 17 points. NU drops to fifth with 16 points on five wins, one draw, and six losses.
