Meron pa kaming isang game, wala na kaming time na mag-drama pa kasi dalawang days lang ang pagitan -- Diana Carlos
University of the Philippines has no time to dwell on their latest setback.
The Lady Maroons dropped a crucial match against University of Sto. Tomas, 20-25, 21-25, 16-25, Sunday in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena that pushed UP on the brink of elimination.
The Lady Maroons never got their game going and struggled the whole match – a stark contrast from their performance when they submitted the Tigresses in four sets in the first round.
UP, which had its two-game winning run snapped, were even outblocked by UST’s Ria Meneses, 8-4.
“Well meron naman talagang ganyan, madalas na nangyayari, na galing ka sa panalo tapos nagiging complacent ka,” said UP sophomore hitter Diana Carlos. “Parang ganoon so ayun nga hindi kami nakapag-execute ng tama.”
The Diliman-based squad slid to 7-6 win-loss record in a three-way tie with other semifinals contenders Far Eastern University and National University.
UP is now in a must-win situation against FEU on Wednesday. Another loss will send them packing for an early vacation.
“Sabi namin OK lang ‘yan. Meron pa kaming isang game, wala na kaming time na mag-drama pa kasi dalawang days lang ang pagitan,” Carlos said. “Bukas back to work na kaagad, both pa rin ‘yan skills and mental.”
“Siguro kailangan gustuhin namin ang laro sa Wednesday para makapag-execute kami,” she added.
