Hindi lang siya one game -- Remy Palma
Graduating player Remy Palma thanked and praised her Far Eastern University teammates for extending her collegiate stint.
The Lady Tamaraws gave Palma’s swan song a chance for an even bigger encore.
The veteran middle got all the help she needed from her FEU crew Wednesday with their season on the line.
Her teammates were there to do extra effort on defense. The duo of Toni Basas and Bernadeth Pons did their usual job of providing points.
Even Heather Guino-o had a timely scoring explosion.
Everyone contributed and FEU was rewarded with a spot in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Final Four.
Palma will still have a chance to show her talents for the green and yellow.
“Sobrang proud ako sa mga bata,” said a very thankful Palma.
Palma scored 10 points with five coming off kill blocks as the Lady Tams eliminated University of the Philippines, 25-16, 25-16, 27-25, in the semis race.
But what Palma appreciated the most was seeing her juniors play with maturity and focus in the face of tremendous pressure especially in the third set when UP made a final push to save its season.
“Ngayon nakita ko na paunti-unti, nagagawa na nila ang mga role nila,” she said. “Nakaka-proud talaga.”
FEU closed the elims with an 8-6 win-loss record and secured the third Final Four berth for a chance to forge a semis showdown with either the defending champion De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University.
The Lady Spikers (11-2) and Lady Eagles (11-2) clash on Saturday to determine who will occupy the top seeding. University of Sto. Tomas (8-5) and National University (7-6) collide for the last semis spot.
A win by UST will put FEU at no. 4 spot and the Tigresses at no. 3. If NU survives the match, the Lady Bulldogs and Tigresses will battle in a playoff for the last semis berth and will lock FEU at no. 3.
Whichever team the Lady Tams face in the semis, Palma said that there is no chance she will only play one game.
She is in it to win it all this time.
“Hindi lang siya one game,” Palma vowed. “Ayaw kong matapos na one game lang.”
Palma wants to advance in the Finals – a goal FEU failed to complete last year when they bowed down to DLSU in two games in the semis.
“Kung ano pa yung kaya kong gawin, kung ano man yung napakita ko kanina, lagi kong sinasabi sa sarili ko na hindi ako dapat naku-kuntento, so ayun,” she added. “Kung umabot man ng playoffs, kailangan paghirapan pa rin namin at paghandaan pa rin namin ang mga natitirang game namin. Para sa akin kasi, ayaw kong isipin na isa na lang. Dapat marami pa.”
