The best is yet to come.
In a UAAP season that has already brought countless high-flying spikes, jaw-dropping saves, ecstatic wins and heartbreaking losses, it would take an immense spectacle to somehow make the festivities any better.
But believe us, the best is yet to come.
This Saturday, the biggest rivalry in Philippine collegiate sports takes the form of a second round women's volleyball match between the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles and the De La Salle University Lady Spikers to figure out, once and for all, the rightful owner of season 79's top seed.
Both teams have garnered identical 11-2 win-loss records and have shown equally impressive performances before the big match this Saturday.
Ateneo holds the slim advantage of that confidence-boosting victory in their first round encounter, a classic four-set thriller that was indicative of Ateneo and La Salle's exciting level of play prior to their meeting.
And their upcoming second round encounter is looking to be every bit as epic, if not more. With the Lady Spikers looking to avenge their first round loss while Ateneo hopes to replicate its success.
Leading the Lady Spikers' charge is setter extraordinaire, PLDT Home Ambassador Kim Fajardo whose ball distribution will be key to DLSU's revenge plot against their rivals.
On the Ateneo side, the high-flying Jho Maraguinot, a PLDT Home Ambassador herself, is the x-factor whose sheer numbers are much needed to help seal the Lady Eagles' bid for the top seed.
Looking back, the last five UAAP women's volleyball Finals series were match-ups between Ateneo and La Salle, and the past six champions have either been the Lady Eagles or the Lady Spikers, further cementing each program's status as modern dynasties.
The defending champs De La Salle has the edge, earning four titles dating back to season 73 where they amassed a three-peat all the way to season 75, before winning it again in season 78.
Ateneo on the other hand, has won it in season 76, and season 77.
So history, aside from the top seed and a chance to enter the Final Four on a winning note is on the line this Saturday. All that's left is to make sure you catch the most anticipated match of the elimination round. It won't disappoint.
Catch the second round match-up between Ateneo and La Salle this Saturday, April 8 live on S+A, S+A HD channel 166 and via streaming.
