Samonte still had to do rookie duties even after breakout game

KNOW YOUR ROLE. Jules Samonte turned in her best performance and then fulfilled her post-game tasks as a rookie.
Out came Jia Morado. Out came Bea De Leon. Out came Michelle Morente.
And all three Ateneo de Manila University stalwarts were immediately followed by media to be interviewed and fans to be taken a photo with.
Then out came Jules Samonte – and the only thing following her was a blue-colored cooler on wheels.
Yes, the “magic bunot” who turned in her best performance – up against archrival De La Salle University, no less – still had tasks to fulfill as a rookie. “Rookie duties,” she expressed through chuckles.
The seldom-used spiker had 10 points and stepped up big-time in place of the injured Jho Maraguinot.
Samonte provided a much-welcome boost in the scoring column for De Leon and Morente as the Lady Eagles rumbled back from a sorry first set to score a four-set win against their archrivals.
As it turns out, the five-foot-nine volleybelle didn’t even know she was going to be on the court in the rivalry game. “I actually didn’t know that I was gonna play. I didn’t expect it, but then, coach Tai (Bundit) prepared all of us naman to play,” she said.
Not only was she prepared to play, Samonte was prepared to contribute in Ateneo’s attempt to wrap up the top-seed. “I’m super happy. I feel great because all of us in the team worked hard for it,” she expressed afterward.
While she has just turned in her best performance, the recruit from De La Salle Zobel isn’t stopping just yet. “This really boosts my confidence, but I know I have to work more and harder,” he said.
