Ateneo's dominance on Rivalry Weekend continues, as the Blue Eagles blanked the De La Salle Green Archers, 2-0, to lock up the top seed in UAAP Season 79 men's football, Sunday evening at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

While it was De La Salle that had their backs against the wall, it was Ateneo that came out aggressive, looking to bounce back from their stunning loss to University of the East last Thursday. Third year man Julian Roxas got the Blue Eagles on the board first, blasting the ball from outside of the penalty box for the 1-0 lead.

Facing elimination even with a draw, the Green Archers needed to respond in the second half, but unfortunately couldn't manage an equalizer in the remaining minutes of the match.

Instead, it was Ateneo who struck again, with rookie Sam Lim delivering the kill-shot to De La Salle's season in the fourth minute of injury time in the second half.

When the final whistle went off, the Ateneans celebrated their handiwork, while the La Sallians mourned the end of their season.

"I'm happy talaga sa result now, after the big loss last Thursday, my players nag-perform talaga sila, from the keeper to the striker, talagang nag-perform, so I'm happy with the result." said Ateneo head coach JP Merida.

As mentioned, Ateneo locks up the first seed with the win as they improve to 32 points on ten wins, two draws, and one loss.

De La Salle on the other hand, has been eliminated from Final Four contention, and will miss the post season for the first time since the Final Four format was implemented in UAAP Season 75. It will also be the first time that they finish lower than fourth place since UAAP Season 70.

With De La Salle's loss, UST locks up the final semifinals spot in the men's football tournament.
