UST's Kenneth Tuzon scored a go-ahead goal in the dying minutes of the match to help get an important win over FEU.
A conversion off a scramble in the dying moments of the second half helped University of Santo Tomas mount a comeback and score an important 2-1 over Far Eastern University in UAAP Season 79 men's football action, Sunday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
FEU took control early in the match, with Mark Arranguez scoring in the 24th minute to give the former back-to-back champions an early advantage.
It didn't take long for UST to respond however, with Renz Gumban helping the Growling Tigers pull even 35 minutes into the match.
In the 89th minute of the match, Kenneth Tuzon would play hero for the Tigers as he would scramble to score off a free kick from Darwin Busmion, putting the Tigers ahead with roughly five minutes of regulation and injury time remaining.
FEU, who were playing without striker Rico Andes due to cards, wouldn't be able to manage an equalizer of their own, and UST held on for the important W.
"Come from behind, first goal yung FEU,and then nag 1-1, then magandang free kick, so yun yung nagbigay sa amin ng chance sa spot ng fourth place. Sana pasok na kami today. " said UST head coach Marjo Allado.
"We had lapses, our wingers parang hindi nagtrabaho eh, pero yung pinaka-importante dito is yung naka-goal kami, so we have to address our deficiencies, pero yung pinaka-importante dito yung three points eh, right now we're 20 points, and alam ng players na yung motivation sa kanila is in order to win the game, kailangan niyo mag-score, score yung naka-tatak sa utak nila." Allado added.
The important win gave UST, currently sitting at fourth place, 20 points and more importantly significant separation between themselves and De La Salle, who are also chasing the fourth seed.
FEU, who locked up a playoff spot in their previous win, moves to 22 points on six wins, four draws, and three losses.
