The Ateneo-De La Salle rivalry spills over to the football pitch
MATCHES ON SUNDAY, APRIL 9 (Rizal Memorial Football Stadium)
3:00 PM - UST vs, FEU (Men's)
5:00 PM - DLSU vs. Ateneo (Men's)
7:00 PM - UE vs. Adamson (Men's)
De La Salle University seeks to keep its hopes alive for the remaining Final Four berth alive today as it plays fierce rival Ateneo today in the UAAP men's football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Green Archers are two points out of the No. 4 slot and a loss to the Blue Eagles in the 5 p.m. match will virtually kiss their semifinals hopes goodbye.
University of Santo Tomas, a point ahead of the fifth-running National University in the race for the last Final Four slot, takes on Far Eastern University at 3 p.m.
De La Salle suffered a blow on its semis aspirations following a 1-2 loss to defending champion University of the Philippines a week ago.
The Archers, who have 15 points, are locked in a three-way battle with the Tigresses (17) and the Bulldogs (16) for the remaining Final Four slot.
With Ateneo ace striker Jarvey Gayoso out due to suspension, De La Salle needs to capitalize this huge break and avenge its 0-1 defeat in the first round.
It was Gayoso's 36th minute strike that broke the backs of the Archers in their first meeting with the Eagles.
UST hopes to follow up its huge 2-1 victory over NU last week to gain upperhand in the chase for No. 4.
University of the East, tagged as giant killers after beating FEU and Ateneo in succession, shoots for its third straight win against Adamson University in a duel of also-rans at 7 p.m.
