Tams survive first stepladder semis phase
Far Eastern University survived the do-or-die phase of the stepladder semifinals.

Far Eastern University faced a tough challenge against University of Sto. Tomas the whole match of their do-or-die stepladder semifinals.

But the Tamaraws showed that they wanted the win more.

FEU asserted its mastery over the Espana-based squad and showed the Tigers the exit door with an emphatic, 25-22, 27-25, 25-18, win Wednesday in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament semis at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Tamaraws duo of Greg Dolor and Jude Garcia were just unstoppable, sending missiles in every angle and the Tigers just don’t have an answer to the same suspects that punished them in their first two meetings in the elimination round.

FEU advanced in the next phase of the stepladder semis adn will take on the twice-to-beat National University on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Down 10-16 in the third set, the Tams unearthed a fiery 15-2 rally capped by the game-clinching ace by the graduating Dolor that left UST in shock.

“Masayang-masaya po ako kasi matagal po naming hinintay to. Dalawang taon din po kaming wala sa semifinals,” said Dolor. “Gusto ko pag-exit ko maganda ang nangyari sa last playing year ko sa FEU.”

Dolor pounded 10 attacks in his 13-point production and added seven excellent digs for an all-around performance for the Tams. Garcia finished with 12 markers including 10 coming off kills. FEU libero Rikko Marmeto played through a hurting hand but still came up with 19 receptions and 17 digs.

The Tams completed a season sweep of the Tigers and won all of their meetings in straight sets.

Only skipper Arnold Bautista scored in double figures with 12 while Manuel Medina scored with nine for UST, which gave away 28 points off their errors.

Waiting in the best-of-three Finals is the three-peat seeking Ateneo de Manila.
