University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle end the eliminations with a scoreless draw.
Final Four-bound University of Santo Tomas missed out on a chance to finish the eliminations with a higher seed as they were held to a scoreless draw by De La Salle University Thursday afternoon at the Moro Lorenzo Football Stadium in Ateneo de Manila University.
The Growling Tigers pressed the action early on, getting good chances at goal, but Green Archers keeper Kerbi Almonte helped keep their sheet clean.
The Taft-based booters picked up the pace in the second half, but ultimately couldn't come up with a conversion from their end.
After 90 minutes, neither team managed to find the back of the net for a 0-0 scoreline.
"We had some chances against La Salle, pero disappointing yung performance of some of the players," UST head coach Marjo Allado said post match. "Sayang lang, this is the time dapat na for 90 minutes, i-sshow mo yung quality mo."
"We had chances dito sa harap ng goal, we dominated the game pero hindi man lang kami maka-score, pero anyway mas mabut na 'yun kesa tinalo kami ng La Salle. Kahit papaano, draw."
A win for UST and either a draw or loss for Far Eastern University would have pushed the Growling Tigers up to third place. Instead, with the draw, they finish the eliminations in fourth place with 21 points on six wins, three draws and five losses.
As for De La Salle, they end the season likely at sixth place and they'll be missing the final four for the first time since UAAP Season 70, when they finished, coincidentally at sixth place as well.
For DLSU coach Hans Smit, the season was one to forget as he shifts his focus to the next season.
"I'm glad this is over with, I'm gonna get rid of the bad apples, and you will see a different linuep hopefully next year"
