National University’s search for a versatile forward may very well be over.
Jonas Tibayan of Chiang Kai Shek College has committed to play for the Bulldogs. “NU na po ako,” he said.
Tibayan joins former Nazareth School of NU standout John Lloyd Clemente and Ateneo de Manila High School contributor Enzo Joson as reinforcements for head coach Jamike Jarin’s first year at the helm.
The 18-year-old does anything and everything from scoring, rebounding, and defending, but is best known for his non-stop motor and tireless effort.
Tibayan posted an 11.4-point, 12.4-rebound double-double average in the inaugural PSSBC (Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship). He also had one mark each in the assist, steal, and block columns as his team finished runner-up.
Aside from standing as a pillar for the Blue Dragons, Tibayan also had tours of duty for both the Gilas cadets and Batang Gilas.
NU had been missing a versatile forward at the wings since the time of Glenn Khobuntin.
With the six-foot-three forward bringing his talents to Jocson Street, however, he will bolster a rotation that already includes promising Joshua Sinclair, veteran Med Salim, and energetic Reggie Boy Morido.
Tibayan’s commitment was first reported by Tiebreaker Times.
