De La Salle University guns for a championship berth against University of Sto. Tomas.
Years of championship experience molded De La Salle University into a squad that knows how to bounce back after every fall.
The Lady Spikers closed the elimination round not in the way they wanted it to end.
But coming off a loss makes DLSU more dangerous.
And with their chance to advance in their ninth straight Finals appearance at stake, the defending champion Lady Spikers are sure to put their game faces on when they take on the very hungry University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball Final Four at the Big Dome on Saturday.
Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
The Taft-based squad finished the eliminations with an 11-3 win-loss record to land at second spot.
DLSU dropped its last elims game against archrival league-leading Ateneo de Manila, 12-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19, last April 8 in a no-bearing game where the two squads who are already assured of semis twice-to-beat advantage fought only for their seeding.
Head coach Ramil De Jesus down played their loss, saying that the real battle begins against UST.
“Siguro sabi ko nga, doon (sa semis) magi-start ang totoong labanan,” he said. “So kailangan doon ka na ‘wag magpapatalo. So lahat gagawin namin para sa game na 'yun.”
The Lady Spikers has the psychological advantage against UST after defeating the Tigresses in their two meetings in the elims.
DLSU destroyed UST in their first battle 25-23, 16-25, 25-14, 25-22 before overpowering the Tigresses 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, last March 29.
Team captain and graduating setter Kim Fajardo, top hitter Kim Dy, Desiree Cheng, Majoy Baron, Aduke Ogunsanya, Tin Tiamzon and ace libero Dawn Macandili are all expected to bring their A-game to secure the first best-of-three championhip berth.
If necessary, the sudden death match is on Wednesday.
