National University and Far Eastern University dispute the right to take on three-peat seeking Ateneo de Manila in the best-of-three Finals.
National University looks to forge a Finals showdown against three-peat seeking Ateneo de Manila but Far Eastern University wants to write a different script.
The twice-to-beat to Bulldogs take on the hungry Tamaraws Sunday in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament stepladder semifinals at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Game time is at 12:00 noon and will air via livestream.
NU closed the elimination round with a 12-2 win-loss record to secure the semis advantage.
The Bulldogs led by veteran hitters Bryan Bagunas, Fauzi Ismail and last year’s rookie of the year James Natividad defeated the Tams in their two meetings in the elims.
NU cruised to a 25-20, 25-22, 25-23, win in the first round against FEU before duplicating their domination with a 25-21, 25-23, 26-24, victory last March 19.
“Technically, talagang underdog kami,” said FEU coach Rey Diaz.
But Diaz is confident the Morayta-based squad can pull off a huge upset and extend the series to a sudden death on Wednesday.
“Pero naniniwala ako na mas malaki ang puso namin at mas maraming nagdadasal para sa amin,” said Diaz.
Greg Dolor, Jude Garcia and John Paul Bugaoan rallied the Tams past University of Sto. Tomas, 25-22, 27-25, 25-18, last Wednesday in the knockout opening phase of the stepladder.
Waiting in the best-of-three Finals series are the Blue Eagles, who swept their way into the championship round.
