Honestly, ang sarap sa pakiramdam kasi at least this year, nakatulong ako sa team na at least makaabot ng Finals, at nakapag-contribute din ako -- Michelle Morente
Michelle Morente spent her time last year watching Ateneo de Manila University from the sidelines.
One could only imagine what she felt that time seeing her team compete the whole season and eventually lose the crown.
Now back in action after sitting out last season because of academic deficiencies, Morente played all out and is now reaping the rewards of her hard work this 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
The third -ear player punctuated her second Final Four stint with a booming attack that formally handed the Lady Eagles their sixth straight championship ticket Sunday with a 25-22, 25-10, 16-25, 26-24, win over a gritty Far Eastern University side at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Morente, who averaged 12.2 points in the elimination round with a 41.53% attack efficiency rating, pounded 12 spikes with three aces and a kill block for 16 points to lead the Katipunan-based squad back to a sixth straight championship showdown with archrival defending champion De La Salle University.
She also contributed on defense with 15 digs and six receptions.
“Sobrang nag-pay off lahat ng mga pinaghirapan namin sa training,” said Morente.
She was all smiles during the post-game interview, filled with joy for helping the top seeded semis team make a return stint to the Finals for a chance for redemption.
“Siyempre, masarap sa feeling. Honestly, ang sarap sa pakiramdam kasi at least this year, nakatulong ako sa team na at least makaabot ng Finals, at nakapag-contribute din ako,” she said.
“So I'm just proud of everyone sa team,” Morente added.
Morente and Ateneo will start their showdown against the Lady Spikers, whom they swept in the elims, on April 29 at the MOA Arena.
Morente averaged 19.5 points with 17 digs and 14.5 excellent receptions against DLSU in the elims.
