Ateneo de Manila hitter Jho Maraguinot felt a little rusty in spite of a 14-point performance.
Ateneo de Manila University ace Jho Maraguinot uncorked 14 points in a big game against Far Eastern University.
The third year outside hitter delivered the same production as if she hasn’t skipped a couple of matches.
However, Maraguinot still felt that she struggled in the Lady Eagles’ championship berth-clinching 25-22, 25-10, 16-25, 26-24, win Sunday against the Lady Tamaraws in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Final Four at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Sobrang excited akong maglaro kasi feeling ko ang tagal kong hindi naglaro,” said Maraguinot, who skipped Ateneo’s last two elimination round victories against University of the East and defending champion De La Salle University because of a nagging right knee injury.
“So nu’ng una, medyo shaky,” she added. “Alam ko rin kasi na I'm not 100%, so tinry ko pa rin na i-pace ang sarili ko.”
Ateneo secured its sixth straight Finals appearance and sixth title showdown in a row against the Lady Spikers.
The Alitagtag, Batangas native smashed 11 spikes with three aces for her first game for Ateneo since suiting up against Adamson last March 26.
Maraguinot pointed out that though she started the game by scoring the team’s first two points, there were moments that she felt the rust of being away from competition for almost a month.
“Ayun nga, nataranta ako, may parts na nataranta ako kasi alam ko na hindi ‘yun ‘yung ginagawa ko talaga mismo,” she said. “Kasi nanghina ako eh, may parts talaga na nanghina ako.”
“Pero masaya naman ako na nakalaro ulit ako,” added Maraguinot.
The best-of-three championship series opens on April 29 at the MOA Arena
