De La Salle University coach Ramil De Jesus dropped by at the ongoing 2017 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.
With the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball Finals schedule moved to a later date, De La Salle University head coach Ramil de Jesus found time to scout potential recruits for the Lady Spikers when he visited the 2017 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.
De Jesus and other collegiate coaches were spotted in the annual national sports meet for elementary and high school students.
Palarong Pambansa serves as a fishing ground for coaches looking for potential talents. The meet is also a battleground for mentors hoping to land blue chip recruits.
Aside from De Jesus, other collegiate coaches seen scouting for recruits are University of Sto. Tomas mentor Kungfu Reyes, Jerry Yee of University of the Philippines and Obet Javier of NCAA champion Arellano University.
Some of the country’s best volleybelles that are products of Palarong Pambansa are Alyssa Valdez, Kim Fajardo, Jho Maraguinot, Ana Gopico, Grethcel Soltones, Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons.
The defending champion Lady Spikers and their archrivals Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles’ best-of-three Finals series opener was moved from Saturday to May 2 in deference to the country’s hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit this week.
All the games of their sixth straight championship showdown will be held at the Big Dome.
Game 2 is on May 6 while Game 3, if necessary, is on May 10.
