"We're grateful for the season, win or lose naman, grateful kami eh, kasi experience din yun," - Ateneo team captain Jia Morado
For the second straight year, it wasn't meant to be.
The Ateneo Lady Eagles took on collegiate rivals De La Salle University and came up short, losing in two games to the defending champions.
In each finals match, the Lady Eagles fought hard and gave the Lady Spikers all that they could handle, but in the end it wasn't enough.
While it definitely wasn't the outcome that they wanted, Lady Eagles skipper Jia Morado believes that they gave it all that they could.
"I'm really happy about the game, it could have gone either way. Sayang though, but then I'm sure we put up a fight naman in the game kanina." Morado said after the match,
While it was a similar result to Season 78 - a runner up finish - the main difference for the Lady Eagles this season was the fact that they proved that they could contend for a title, even without former superstar Alyssa Valdez and former Finals MVP Amy Ahomiro.
With win after win, the Lady Eagles silenced all the doubters and answered all the questions en route to a top-seed after the elimination round.
And for a team that wasn't expected to contend after losing two of their biggest contributors, what the Lady Eagles did this season is definitely something to be proud of.
For her part, Morado says that they're happy with how their season played out.
"We're grateful for the season, win or lose naman, grateful kami eh, kasi experience din yun," Morado said, with a positive tone in her voice. "Hindi naman laging panalo, hindi palaging talo. In the end, wala namang upset sa amin about what happened."
Thank you to everyone for the support. Truly grateful for the amazing run. Most of all, thank You, Lord. Everything for You. 🙏🏻 #OBF— Julia Morado (@juliacmorado) May 6, 2017
As for what's in store for next season, Morado says that while they know what they need to improve on, they'll be taking a short, but much-needed break.
"For next season, well we know what we have to improve on, number one is receive, but right now, gagawin namin, we're gonna take a short break, and then we'll get back to work."
