UST ends UAAP 79 with another general championship

CHANGE IS NOT COMING. UST has both championships in the Seniors and Juniors.
University of Sto. Tomas has wrapped up a triumphant season hosting with the greatest triumph of them all.
The Espana-based school reclaimed the general championship in the UAAP Season 79 Seniors while retaining the title in the Juniors division, as made official on Saturday.
UST, the season’s host, received its trophies in the closing ceremonies inside its campus.
With seven championships as well as nine second-place and three third-place finishes, the Growling Tigers compiled a total of 312 points – 51 better than their closest competition.
UST ruled women’s athletics, men’s and women’s beach volleyball, men’s and women’s judo, men’s table tennis, and men’s taekwondo.
Finishing second once more is De La Salle University which crowned itself king in basketball and poomsae and queen in football, table tennis, and volleyball.
Rounding out the order are Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines, National University, Far Eastern University, University of the East, and Adamson University.
DLSU and NU captured the most championships with five each.
Ateneo swimmer Aldo Batungbacal and Adamson softball player Angeli Ursabia were hailed as Seniors Athletes of the Year.
Meanwhile, UST also reigned supreme in the Juniors division, totalling 171 points.
Runner-up UE had 141 points under its belt.
The Athletes of the Year in the Juniors division are Nazareth School of NU spiker Lawrence Cruz and DLS Zobel tanker Nikki Pamintuan.
